Self _ 2017

This artwork is made up of cicada shells I have collected for over 10 years. The life cycle of the cicadas has some connotations. Commonly, their shed imagoes refer to a new start or change. But, I have observed the bodies as nymphs underground for most of their lives.

Since their shells drew my attention I have collected them at a certain period of time every year. These are objects that are near us but we cannot notice them with ease. They appear to me as a sign or a symptom with some internalized implications probably because of their living alone underground for a few years.

Once it’s bodies but abandoned cicada’s bodies are making possibility of another meaning to meet my body.
