Painting, Abstract informal, Oil, 90x120x5cm
This is the result of my very first attempts to peel the surface layer of drying gloss paint from large trays, having left the paint to dry for a long time. The work represents the start of when I experimented with the idea of using paint in a radically different way, giving my work an opportunity to open up a different universe. My first attempts at peeling the skins ended repeatedly in failure as most of them tore or broke up as I peeled, giving me only small pieces of paint skins. However, I learned from this early disappointment and evolved my technique so that it did not oppose gravity. I decided to bring together all these first, torn pieces to create a big, broken layer of paint skins that were mounted on a canvas.
