fourminutesangst

'fourminutesangst' is a sequence of images taken from a video by the German Expressionist dancer Dore Hoyer. She created a dance-cycle called 'Affectos Humanos' in 1963, in which she dances five basic human emotions. I chose the one on FEAR. The transfer from one medium to another gave the original piece a visual patina: what is a technological 'mishap' - adding diagonal stripe patterns and Moiré effects to the original dance video- is creating a contemporaneity containing its own historicity. The sound which I added to the sequence of still images has an eery quality of impending discomfort... a feeling which a lot of us are feeling in these days.
