Both. Is a long process...
I start with a wrinkled canvas (prepared before) and then I paint with differents materials (acrylics, inks, watercolours, felt-tips, resin).
And after painting I apply other texture.

interesting..did you create this texture with paint or you just painted over wrinkled canvas??want to make something similar for our http://dissertationwriter.org office but not quite sure which is the best way to do it..
