Tryst with destiny by Sanatan Dinda
India had made a tryst with destiny, a destiny that would unfold in the years to follow as one of relentless urbanisation. We bumped into a new world, a world of 'growth'. While exploitation of resources gave way to environmental erosion and massive pollution, several laid down their lives to fructify this mammoth project of 'growth' and urban 'development'.Those facing extermination and eviction became insignificant faceless ghosts, not martyrs. We replaced forests with a huge jungle of concrete civilisation. In pursuit of more convenience for the urban middle class the insignificants got jettissoned. This concrete jungle was founded upon blood, bones, corruption and apathy and we were destined to pay. The 'growth' we found so endearing crushed upon our heads turning the privileged urban into a lump of flesh. We built our cities on human debris and met our destiny of crumbling it into another human debris, a lump of flesh. It comes a full cycle. We made a tryst with destiny, and have met that destiny now.
