Ecstatic Nudes
The Black body is in a constant state of conflict in our world today. Over the last 6 years I have been dedicated to exploring what it could mean to envision a new future for Black bodies and create new representations of the Black female nude from a place of elated embodied resistance that draws from pleasure politics, joy and Afro-futurism to create new representations of the Black female body/nude. Working with Black women who self selected to be part of the process, in this series I explore ways in which we can use the photographic medium as an act of reclaiming, locating and re-inserting the Black female body within dominant visual culture from a place of pride, community, wisdom and strength. We stand together in celebration and solidarity, ready to overturn the violence and oppression that is prevalents in our societies today as we envision a new future where our bodies are free.
