Memento Corallium- The Dead Tree of Life

Memento Corallium- The Dead Tree of Life

"Memento Corallium", or "The Dead Tree of Life", is dedicated to the Great Barrier reef- the largest living thing on Earth. In 2016, The Great Barrier reef suffered the worst coral die-off ever recorded with a devastating mass bleaching event caused by the warm ocean temperature. "Memento Corallium" is a coral reconstruction made from corals found on the beaches of Hamilton and Hayman Islands, collected slowly during the past 3 years. Stone skulls are added to the body of the "new dead tree", as a little reminder that the coral is not alive, it is not what it used to be...

A new creature to the world, "The Dead Tree of Life" grew for a period of 3 months, extending its branches longer and bigger every day. A pair of big, ocean-blue eyes are watching upon the tree, waiting to embrace its soul for the eternity.

Thousands of years old, once a beautiful and colorful living thing, now just a calcium carbonate skeleton, "Memento Corallium" stands to remember the ocean, and it will serve as a reminder to fight the filthy and greedy hands which invade, use, abuse and destroy the nature.
