The Circle of Harmony
This piece was inspired by making private moments, both individual and shared, in public spaces.
A circular rug with the text “Il Cerchio dell’armonia | The Circle of Harmony,” was placed in the centre of Piazza Repubblica accompanied with three pillows and a guitar. It was then left unattended in the public space.
Within time, the goal was achieved: people gathered, sat, exchanged, played and shared private moments in a public space. One started playing guitar and even earned some unprompted busking money from passersby. Later discussion revealed people participating from Japan, France, Italy and America.
It was a space of positive social interaction, deconstructing the fear of the stranger and an opportunity for connection.
