Spanish Soldier Overlooking Afghanistan

This is something I’ve been working on since I’ve been in Spain. I was informed of a military art contest here which I was ellegible to enter, and the only requirement was that I paint something related the Spanish Army. I chose to paint this, which is based off of a photo taken by a Spanish friend of mine here while he was serving time in Afghanistan. I liked it because of the oddly peaceful vibe that resonated from it. The soldier is in Afghanistan due to conflict caused by man, but as he looks over the mountains, he seems to find some peacefulness in being there. I tried to capture this odd juxtaposition of conflict and peace in my application of the paint. Currently living in Valencia (Spain)
