Ànemos

Installation, Political / Social, Nature, Textile, 400x300x500cm
The word "soul", comes from the greek "Anemos" which means breath, wind. The title could not be more appropriate for my work.

The soul, part of the vital and spiritual life of a living being, does not have a beginning, it is immortal and incorporeal. The wind in my installation instead is that energy given off by society, by the globalized world, by the flow of events.

The "wind" constantly shakes individuals, overwhelming them in an eternal sway. A multitude of "souls" suspended in space, they do not have an origin; just as Plato says, "the soul does not have a beginning."

Red long wires move and hover in space. The "souls" in the installation are reduced to thin fragile wires, contemporary man emptied of the fundamental values, which seem to have dissolved into thin air. Wires as roots still able to bind us to the earth, as blood vessels in which the lifeblood flows, as a link between land and the virtual world in which many are accustomed to take refuge.

Each wire rope is one of us, a living being whatsoever, any individual, unaware of being dragged by the daily "wind". Transported by an endless stream of events, sounds, images, smells and inputs; it is a real siege, seemingly without end.

The soul is bound in a strict sense with the heart; on each string of wires there are small hearts, hand-embroidered cotton, enclosed in a plastic reliquary. A container to preserve the most intimate part of the individual, to protect feelings. Heart "animate" life, it has a special relationship with the soul, the intent and the vital breath.

If On one side there's chaos, noise, a stressful society, on the other we find the need to re-evaluate the intensity and dynamism of silence. The ability to stop and indulge in a space between periods or situations of life is essential to give new meaning to our existence. Silence and inactivity have message value; resting intervals but also emptiness and boredom can become evolutionary steps, gaps in our inner life.
The goal is to catapult the viewer into a timeless dimension. Those approaching to the work will inevitably be kidnapped by the curiosity to penetrate the dense network of wires, must make his way through the souls agitated by the wind constantly moving; will feel on the skin thin and soft wire, and while wandering, will caught by the sudden silence.
During the moments of silence, he will linger at the hearts suspended motionless in the dark, reflecting only to be swept away again from the chaos of the world.
