I painted this self-portrait while recovering from an illness. I wanted to make a painting that expressed the feeling of vulnerability and dependence I felt during my time in hospital. For this work, I drew inspiration from the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites in an effort to recreate the popular subject of the “damsel in distress”.
