Eye Zen

'Eye Zen' is a visual portrayal of an altered state of consciousness. Whilst attempting to break away from stereotypical psychedelic imagery, it attempts to convey the feeling of settling into a meditative state. For me, personally, my eyes dart around frantically in search for a visual focus once they are shut. With this piece I aim to portray both frightening and beautiful experiences I've had during meditation both neither good nor bad. Just interesting experiences allowing me to learn and reflect.
Featured in this painting is spiritual worker Eye Zen with whom I've had many conversations on the topic. He claims to see patterns reminiscent of 'the flower of life' appear when he closes his eyes and settles into a relaxed meditative state. This piece is a culmination of both our experiences and discussions.
