You are the result of your actions, make them be good for yourself and for the others
The portraits have been made in differents areas and locations, in particular this work belongs to the series realized inside the Cuevas of Granada, houses carved in stone located in the suburbs of the city, at the foot of Sacromonte. Strictly organized in well defined groups called “Barranchi”, this housing unit gives to its inhabitants the chance to live a life away from the common social way of lives. The constant movement of the land which tries to take back the space ,which has been stolen years ago, contrasts with the feeling of stability shown from the very few home furnishings.
Every portrait of the collection is an independent work that shows the individuality and distinctiveness of every person through a very intimate anthropologic approach. This is the reason why it has been decided to not follow any serial fotographic or documentarian style between the portraits.
In particular, focusing on this work, portrays one od the most important members of the Senegalese community of the Cuevas. For years he helps people that have difficulty just like him either compatriot or not. His Cuevas is open to everyone and very often, around this place, happen veritable ceremonies typical of his culture, to which is possible to assist by invitation only.
The portrait of the collection originates from a time spent living very close to the inhabitants of the Cuevas which let me establish a friendship based on trust translated into photographies which come with a domestic and intimate atmosphere. The pose and the location have been decided as mutually agreed upon betweek the artist and the person, giving a very detailed story of the person and its way of life.
Every portayed person has been invited to write its own thought, put in the captions with the title of every single portrait. In this way, every text enriches the visual story between the connection of the artistic and verbal language. The result is a harmonious pair able to double the communicative plan of the work. The portraits are a detached documentation of their way of lives, representing at the same time a “celebration”.
