The 'simulacrum', along with the art of identity politics, is promoted and manipulated by the agenda of global capital. The transcendence of cultural boundaries and the enthusiasm of hybridity are used as a tool to promote globalization as being politically liberal, when in reality a New World Order (and hence controlling system), is being orchestrated behind the scenes by a shadow government consisting mainly of bankers, Corporations, and the super rich.
Postmodern culture portrays the media and capitalist consumerism as 'real', keeping the masses in a state of suggestive unconsciousness. Political action is relegated to an apathetic acceptance of indifference. Postmodernism is constrained to a collective materialism that claims the realm of the public sphere as it's enterprising arena, yet privatisation seems to be its covert initiative.
Contemporary arts role in globalizations broad design acts as a vehicle of expression and freedom that offers much needed relief, if even only temporarily and illusionary, of supressed frustrations and unrealised hopes and dreams.
