Why Unhappy Not Happy
I created a carved outline as a strange green composite animal intended to symbolise life on earth. This animal has huge crying faces at each end to signal the misery caused by human behaviour. Within the composition are two groups of abstract faces stuck together like the bark of a tree. These represent the tendency of humans to categorise other beings as “like me” and “not like me”, which leads them to treat other humans and other beings as objects, with no respect for their life form. This mentality creates conflict and suffering. It brings death to others and leads to the destruction of our environment. With this work I pose the question about why humanity chooses to create an unhappy world.
