In the middle of the volcano i lost my little pony
The installation consists in a print of the mountains of the south-east of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands and two transparent rectangles in glass. These mountains are of volcanic origin. I often frequented these places, and the presence of huge boulders that are thrown into the ocean has always fascinated me. The work is arranged on the floor and a portion is pressed between two equally sized glasses. The three-dimensional relief, carried out crumpling the print, reports the full and empty spaces exasperating the rocky shape of the mountains. The folds are more visible in the center of the sheet and less visible in the sides, in order to confer the difference in level that is generated by the sharp rocks. The glass announces a perimeter and defines it thanks to its weight by creating a visual tension because of the different natures of the materials. Paper and glass are an emotional geography that turn the cartographical identity of a place in personal experience.
The sublime wonder, the inevitable loss of innocence.
