Concrete Block

Concrete Block

Concrete Block is a selection of urbanistic maps of the beginning of the 20th century. The work presents modernist cities (Washington, Canberra), industrial cities (Crawley, Houten), harbour cities (Boston) or historic cities (Berlin, Athens) which went through an important expansion in the early twentieth century with the development of concrete.

These cities can take geometrical or very organic curvy shapes: as a grid pattern, as a concentrically radiating plan or a bipartisan plan. The main map of these cities now becomes a real concrete landscape which, when reduced to its graphic aspect, offers a reading that is no longer informative but more open to interpretation and visual reading slides.
