Orlando: in between

Video, Spirituality, Human figure, Short film, 3:58
Based on a performance, the video explores the experience of being a being in between two genders. The triptych shows a mummy/cocoon hanging between two opposite poles and fragments of a body that act in a disconnected way, fighting each other. A body without a clear physiognomy wanders in an indefinite space, as an entity which at the same time is no more and not yet and which is made in pieces by opposite forces.
The video is part of the series "Orlando", a body of works inspired by my personal experience of transitioning from one gender to the other, by Virginia Woolf's novel "Orlando. A biography" and by Queer Studies.
My research starts from the exploration of the psychological processes and the cultural issues of gender transitioning, but tries to suggest a wider range of meanings linked to a private and intimate experience.
