Endgame
End Game is a rumination on dualistic thinking as pitfall of the human condition—situated in both conflict within the self and interpersonal conflict from a socio-political standpoint. The work also reflects the entrapment of the female within cinematic history in the embodiment of tropic roles lacking agency in a type of "puppet-play", paradoxically showing the female as a symbol of war, justice and resilience. Good and evil, us and them, and brawn and beauty are pitted against one another in a field of ladies, one side clad in white and the other in black. The women, all played by the artist, are entrapped within a battle of will that is locked in an eternal stalemate as neither side can "see" the other reflected.
NOTE: Endgame is intended to run as endless loop; alternately, the work can be screened in either a 7minute (screener sample link included) or a 14minute format. As a single 7min loop the video transitions from black and white to full colour. The full 14min version transitions from black and white to full colour and then back to black and white again. This work can be shown as a single channel work or as a video installation.
