THE FRIGHTENED ONES is an animated gif based on the original DF painting (Acrylic and Gouache on canvas, 50cm X 50 cm). The November 13th Paris terror attack triggered, in an explicit and apparently relentless way, a violent conflict whose consequences are death, misery, and fear for many people.
The animated loop discloses the constant contradiction between nature’s quiet cycles and war destructions. The image of a wild bush mutates into a perpetual explosion under tracers rounds. Do we see broad leaves trembling in the sweet breeze? Or is it the blood of the frightened ones that reddens horrendous towers of dust, thrown into the air by the falling bombs? Is there a delicate flower or is it an everlasting fire? Hoping that the eye is deceiving us, we wait for every hue to come again and again, wishing for a fleeting peace, a peace that we see disintegrated by horror.
