Lane Way

Lane Way

Analogue Photography was used in the original gathering of images used in this artwork. Although this could be edited via Photoshop and other conventional apparatus, I chose to incorporate analogue photography with the art of Silk Screen Traditional printing. Whereby I reinterpreted a number of images to create this socio-political image. We have my homes' lane way, a Florentine church and passers-by on Dublin streets.
Together they incorporate the serious predicament of young Catholics having to appease their elders. In the very real and very personal reason; if you do not go to church today (Sunday) we will not speak to you (shun) until you repent.
I went through two months of my deceased grandmother who lived in the same house; ignoring me and acting as if I was unworthy due to my not going to Mass. I couldn't go because I had a Kidney infection and thus had an overactive bladder and refused to go anywhere without a public toilet. But this was unacceptable and was therefore shunned for a short time. This artwork shows the young people with their heads down making their way to Mass even though they don't want to. But Family is more important. So even if they have to walk from Dublin to Florence they will to keep the family bond alive.
