I am not mad
Mental health is still a taboo subject today. Society talks about talking about it, but we don't really. The strait jacket is a recognisable symbol of madness and mental asylums. Mental health issues affects both sexes, all ages and cultures. Mental health is misunderstood to be either mad or not mad and the myriad of in betweens is a gaping hole of fear.
Women in general appear to talk about feelings and emotions far easier however, a display of emotion can be labelled as hysteria. Womanhood, hysteria and emotion are locked into each other and women might channel their emotion into their work within the home such as the furnishings, cooking and children. Many have, as in times gone by, have no outlet outside of the home. Their lives become the strait jacket.
