Trilogy: Avatar (in White)

Kate MacDonald incorporates found footage, public domain movie clips, historical film and her own mobile videos to create videoart collages that tease new and unexpected affinities between previously disconnected objects. In the flotsam, jetsam, and lagan of the internet, she navigates what is to be discovered among that which has been lost or deliberately cast aside.

The third video in her trilogy, Avatar (in White) describes a self-curated portrait - but how does one portray the narrative of identity in a 160 pixels square? The camera focuses inward just as the image projects outward. The individual relegated to two dimensions by technology, struggles to be seen in three dimensions -- to retake space and time (for better or for worse). We swap out selves, twisting in dissonance, increasingly fearful that we must forego technical society and the monster of celebrity and narcissm in order to preserve our digital anonymity.
