Live in your head

Live in your head

Roy Immanuel is an artist who works with both painting and sound, building installations out of paintings in series and site-specific sound pieces. The construction of both the audio and visual is approached in the same way, combining different elements or preconceived ideas of narrative in the same space, which then inform and subvert one another.

In his painting practice, textiles and other surfaces are used as a means of visual sampling, set against narrative painting and illustration. Using preconceived ideas of narrative, either personal or factual, and various mediums as a stage on which to play out narrative games, Roy Immanuel’s work explores the language of stereotypes, urban myths and the seemingly endless human capacity to believe whatever you want to. Art production through sublimation is considered with both a sense of farce and also a sincere wonder.
