Il volto, la maschera come rappresentazione di sé.
The project is a collaboration between artist Domenico Demattia and theatre company MTE (Magnifico Teatrino Errante), developed on the basis of a common interest: the study of the body expressiveness and the deepening of its communicative potential. MTE is an integrated theater group, composed of actors with and without disabilities.
The company's work is animated by the desire to present the public its own reality without screens and hypocrisies, developping quality artistics paths that deal with universal themes, and are beyond disability paradigms.
Always interested in portraits, Demattia represents the faces of the MTE actors in their purity, without filters or embellishment, recording an original and powerful physical truth, sometimes disarming and pitiless. All that is accessory, clothes, glasses, makeup ... disappears, to make room for naturalness.
The 20 portraits project, realized over a period of two months, has been developed in parallel with the creation of a show called "Maschere, ovvero il naso" a production that makes use of masks and some of the basic techniques of "La Commedia dell' Arte". Simultaneously, the artist was able to develop an argumentation on the authenticity of the face, the only real mask that we wear and that characterizes us all, regardless our ability to hide or simulate.
