mediterraneo
Installation ( dimensioni variabili) 2014
Place: complex of industrial archaeology: factories of
Industrie Riunite Filati with Generating Station Daste Spalenga (the 20’s)
Materials:
10 steel rods
20 inner tubes
20 iron cages
The size, the space and the number of tubes may vary according to the exhibition premises.
Mediterraneo is an artwork consisting of tubes filled with water and set in iron cages hanging from steel rods at 6 meters' height.
Water falls from the tubes until it jeopardizes their fragile balance and makes them fall to the ground.
I have photographed the situation of the Mediterranean Sea with its political and social implications, emphasizing individual and collective aspects.
Migration finds its theatre in the Mare Nostrum where it carries its questions about emigration, travels, the right to work and to survival, along with its flows, which are highlighted.
The tubes are black lungs, boats / rafts carrying the "black".
In Mediterraneo the sea links its place above with ours below in its depth.
The noise binds the two physical planes of events: the sound of the falling water and the thud of the falling tubes is the backbone of the work
