Heimweh

In this series entitled "Heimweh" I was interested to members of the folk communities of a Swiss valley where the Rhone flows.
The Federation of costumes is made up of over 40 different companies. Its purpose is research, study, promotion and safeguarding of local costumes, music and old folk dances.

Much more than the flamboyance of the costumes this is their anachronistic side that interested me. After hesitating to confront the clothes in a modern environment, I preferred the ambiguity of the iconic former places of each region affiliated to various costumes.

Although I often use a documentary topic as a material for a personal fiction, the series talk about the real problem of succession. The population is aging and young people are becoming fewer and fewer, the risk in the end is to forget the tradition.

As of vanities, these clothes are the mark of the passage of time, they remind us that nothing is certain, everything is doomed to disappear.

These people know that it is useless to give in to nostalgia, the important thing is to enjoy the time we have.
