Narcissus: A Portrait of A Young Man - Pictographic Series

The upper part of this head was inspired by the Chinese pictograph representing face, the lower part suggests the anatomy of the nerve system of human brain.

My series of the pictograph paintings are to search a long journey of human intelligence that started with ancient characters in early civilizations and rested but not yet ended in bio-image of modern science. These characters, twisted and expanded but recognizable, metamorphosed from the artifacts behind glass of museums into human-like creatures. Full of vitality, vigor, and humor, they are trying to communicate with the recent sensibility and exploration in our time.
