Spiriti Guardiani della Terra

This painting, in which airy spirits occupy a tranquil scene of trees reflected in a still pond, is the second of two paintings that evolved side by side. In this painting the pastoral scene developed in Beside Still Waters is expanded to include the idea of Spirit Guardians. As I painted this very beautiful and familiar scene that is part of my home, I wanted to convey not only the magic that can be felt on the land, but also the sense that there are powerful spirits that reside in nature and protect her. The angelic figure in the sky, ready to blow his horn, reminds us that if the human race fails it its duty to regard that which is sacred upon the earth, then the earth, by virtue of its keeper spirits, will evolve without them.
