Persefone

Persefone

Persephone, whose symbol is the pomegranate, is a Greek goddess linked both to life and death. In fact, she was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, but also the wife of Hades, the king of the underworld. Her complexity is reflected on this “paintsculpture”, which groups together different materials. A painted wooden table is the base of the artwork, which is mainly composed by two terracotta pieces. One is a bas-reliefs that represents pomegranate fruits and leaves. The other is the support for the graphic parts of this composition, namely a pencil drawing depicting Persephone, and some hyper realistically pomegranates painted with oil colours.
