What happens in the suburbs ?, super 8 mm, color, magnetic sound, 14 '. Voiceover A. Granchi. Improvised music in sync with various materials and tools by A. Granchi A. and R. Ranaldi.
Filmed and voiced in Florence in the studio of A. Granchi in Piazza S. Spirito, there are scenes used as the "Landscapes for adventures" (1970-71), and, animation, drawings, photographs, silhouettes of a nativity scene of the 30s , clippings from magazines and picture stories, photos of old paintings and by the author. It is one of the most famous works in which Granchi, with a brand new animation technique, activates a unique "theater" of continuous mutations and surprises manipulating historical works dismantled, revised, or "invaded" by all kinds of intrusions. Well-known is sequence of the Chinese heads in the renaissance living room or one in which a photo of the same author legless destroys the balance of a painting style "Biedermeier". In this work we also used the "Fake paintings" (1969-70) works retouched or contaminated by Andrea Granchi with abnormal, ironic and irreverent happenings. By preparatory materials for this film are then sprung a series of works on canvas emulsified or manipulated in photography and an edition of four screenprints entitled "Isolation" (1972). The original is retained by the author. The film has been poured out in DVD (in Rome), copies are at the Centro Pecci in Prato and the Cooperative of Independent Cinema in Rome.
