The artist creates a phenomenological encounter of sensory dilation with her large scale water colour and mixed media paintings. A heightened awareness of our own perceptual faculties, an engagement of all five senses that are often distant, almost theoretical notions as the connection to the body comes into question. More than just a lyrical or hedonistic desire to connect with our senses, Darvall’s Storm in the Sea responds to this contemporary crisis of perception and suggests how this might be refashioned through colour, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Jo Darvall has created a welcome, sensual antidote to our current experience of time.
