PROJECT STATEMENT
One of a series of images made in the area of Tuscany, where I live, renowned worldwide for centuries for its stunning landscape, cities and art. Here, there is however the growing problem of new constructions and developments, often left unfinished and abandoned in the environment, many of which are poorly designed and built with low quality materials, Questions arise about the problems of corruption, the economic crisis and local government, and the state of Italy in general. I am fascinated and often troubled by what we do, how we live and what we are doing to the world and in the series WHAT WE BUY (inspired by the work of Robert Adams 'What We Bought- The New World' in the American West ) I focus on the alarming aspects of our behavior and its impact on the surrounding environment, which sometimes being so close to home and in the name of progress, become overlooked by the locals, and for the moment at least, are avoidable to the general visitor. Setting myself in the land/development scape I am attempting to reiterate to the viewer what I do as a photographer and what I would appreciate others to do also; to remember and to look after what we have.
