Primordial incantation
Estonia is a land with quiet landscape, endless forests, bogs and swamps. The people have been deeply connected to the nature since long, it has been the source of our strength, protection and belief. Secret passageways in the swamps that were laid from stones underwater, gatherings at the holy groves, sacrificial rituals or songs that accompanied them - remembering our past connects us stronger to our roots, providing the firm ground from which to grow and continue the process once started.
”Primordial incantation” is a fragment/documentation of a setup from 2013, located in the forests of Saunja village. The installation, 2nd in it's series, is exhibited outside of the regular gallery-space and remains mostly unseen, except for the eyes of a wanderer. Therefor the surroundings becomes the most important audience, witnessing the story that is being told.
As if a recording from the beginning of the existence, a mythological narrative gets illustrated in space and sound. In the protective shades of growing woods a group of souls is gathering, discussing about settling down or moving forward. Decision gets made and confirmed, the beginning and end united, and similarly to their environment where roots attach the plant to the soil and supply it with necessary life equipment - water and nutrients, our being finds its base. Network is being created and starts to spread.
