The Last Supper

The Last Supper

In Art, The Last Supper is a theme that occur during all times and in all disciplines with great regularity. They find their origin in the Bible stories. Who does not know the frescos made by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel? Here various artists have used powerful and gripping images.
The Last Supper of Jesus and His disciples gives reason for completely different themes, perhaps more indirect, but with not less (repressed) tension. One of them is the traitor.
Martijn Duifhuizen has minimized the theme to an abstract essence in figures of black and gold. At first sight the nuance has gone. Black and gold, that is all
there is. But it is this light absorbing action of the black and the frame with the lightly reflecting pure gold that takes care of an impressing variation. No figure is the same.
