Sword of Orion

I am always searching for the dominant characteristics or the basic identity for a new body of work. The vocabulary of shapes and images that I have in my memory are the guide to begin all new work regardless of media or perceived subject matter and help me to gain access to its underlying architecture.
Sometimes I explore atmosphere and color with minimal imagery, other times I use line and deeply layered mark making. Either way my goal is not to focus on any one mode in particular body of work, but let the natural development of the piece describe the interplay between all modes of visual expression. -Alexis Portilla
