Photographs are often seen as a mirror with memory. Employing the mirror in my own image making process I wanted to embrace a more conscious way of looking. I forced myself to sit and stare at my reflection for lengthy periods before making each self-portrait of my mirrored self using a photographic technique called ‘painting with light’. A silhouette portrait of myself aged seven, which was made in primary school, prompted a conversation of sorts between my younger and older self and became the real starting point for this introspective exercise.
