“Play” was created during Lucca Comics and Games, a festival concerning comics and cosplay (the representation of a character through a costume).
The performer’s personality is not blocked by the disguise but appears through it. The character choice, being in canon or not and the economic investment are elements that tell us about the hidden player. Identity is concealed by the mask, but still lives through it.
“Play”, here shown with 10 diptychs of 24, does not aim at documenting a subculture, but at raising questions about the uncertain nature of identity and the role of the costume in defining someone’s persona.
