Autoritratti Arcani
Like any other divinatory tools, Tarots are above all concepts that embrace the whole of the Universe and the meaning of Life. Tarots are rich in symbolisms of a disparate nature. They mix pagan and Christian beliefs, both erudite and common that have percolated through Jewish, Egyptian and European cultures and, according to some, from the Ching dynasty of ancient China. The semantic of the Tarots is universal and, for this reason, they are a uniquely interesting medium for introspective meditation and creativity. The 22 major Arcana represent mankind’s path. Every card is a step towards self-realization and spiritual enlightenment. They also embrace all our dreams and archetypes. I produced a series of self-portraits where I became the symbol of each Arcana through a self-examination process that allowed me to create a contemporary reinterpretation of these classic iconographies. At the same time, I gained new insights into my deeper inner self. The outcome of this exercise has been the unveiling of a sequence of unexpected images of myself that used to be concealed deep inside me but that are nevertheless very real and true.
These new images of myself, more often ironic than dramatic, have been inspired by the evocative imaginary of the arcane.
