Near Ampefy in Central Madagascar lies a scarred landscape of mineral protuberances, man-made geysers and fleshy, wound like fissures caused by the misplaced drilling of failed colonial mining projects. Erosion after overgrazing is causing the hills to crumble into rivers. I emphasised the startling red minerals and bodily textures. Strangely, the warm torrents of this wounded lanscape lure locals seeking relief from disease. With Rainforest Fire this is one of a series of environmental paintings.
