This image is from the series “Vision / Moments in Time”. The title of this series is derived from a double-entendre Korean word (shi-kac), defined as both ‘vision’ and ‘moment’. The series explores the nature of grids, the writings of Rosalind Krauss and the work of artists like Piet Mondrian through the photographic medium. The people in these environments simultaneously move within and are confined by a system. As urbanization sprawls, the system grows and we become more oblivious to being influenced by it. Conversely these fleeting moments of human innocence are beautiful even as they exist in a world of ever increasing mechanical efficiency. Upon seeing this image we notice the look of the staring girl. We are left with a moment of contemplation. We feel an immediate connection with her and only her. Visually her world, the various grids, trains, windows, and people are breaking down fragmenting away. Everything becomes a bit more ambiguous if not anonymous. We are left to contemplate this paradigm.
