Chaotic Presences

Chaotic Presences

Painting, Sacred / Mythological, Mixed technique, 115x160x2cm
Looking towards mass media advertising, fashion, and the surplus of images that surround us, my work investigates contemporary perceptions of identity by questioning what is “real” as the world becomes increasingly artificial due to technological advances and the development of new moral and social infrastructures. The figures in my paintings, often larger than life and seemingly frozen in awkward positions, are not intended as subjects in a traditional sense. Rather, they are merely spatial elements of movement and stillness that extend from autonomous “living backgrounds.” In this regard my work reflects a female perception of reality; the figures’ presences question the validity of their role as subjects, their gaze questioning ours.
