Painting, Memory, Human figure, Oil, 50x100cm
It belongs to my triptych "Surma".
SURMA: Another name for MECAN, african ethnic group of South-West Ethiopia allocated in the Lower Omo. The Surma are semi-nomadic pastoralists and farmers, similar to the Nilotic; together with other Negroid tribes they are the remains of the oldest ethnic substratum of the region. Locally Mecan are designated by the names of Tisciana, Sciuro, Surma, Suro, which are also known in the texts of human geography. Proud warriors and lovers of the "body paint" as vital expression of the tradition of this ethnic group, which is just "written" on their bodies.
