The Plastic Side of the Sea

Video, Nature, Landscape, Short film, 10:47
An audio-visual portrait of the universe of plastic debris; left behind or washed ashore on the beaches of Kamarina, the archaeological site in Sicily.
These pieces of debris, merged with the sand, become the new findings of "the plastic era". Wind and water shape plastic bags and greenhouse cover fragments into appealing, intriguing forms, assuming organic features which unashamedly compete with those of existing things. It's not surprising that nowadays we look for inspiration not only in nature, but also in waste. Clearly, the alluring power of plastic transcends this state of decay.

“Like the albatross, we first-world humans find ourselves lacking the ability to discern anymore what is nourishing from what is toxic to our lives and our spirits.”
