Ephemera

The project 'Ephemera' is concerned with the exploration of sugar as a sculptural material. Sugar is an everyday substance with many associations. It can be seen as a metaphor for the female body or a 'drug food' with psychological consoling effects, prompting comparisons with wider society in terms of cycles of desire and consumption. The forms created dissipate and fade away, feeding into the notion stillness doesn't exist. The impossibility to instantly recognise the material compels the viewer to look again. At the core of this work is the desire to make people look again at things often overlooked.
