Table nr 43 the sea as a locked space of trade and border

This piece was made from a shop table found in Trapani. All the elements of the original table as it stood and had wares displayed and traded across its glass top have been translated into this work. The glass that it is now standing on and the blue materiel were part of the original table. Additional wood was found at the council skip in Trapani and collected from Germany England and France. The floats on the table were sourced from a fisherman in Trapani. I did not have much time to listen to this table but even so it started to speak quickly about the sea. Under the table are legs many of which can only be seen obliquely via the glass under it. The draw is crammed with legs. In Trapani the sea is omnipresent; it is so open so seemingly free. The underside of the table reveals the clandestine movement of peoples across the sea and also references borders and barriers in the sea to do with the commerce of people who become bodies/objects/things.
