Solaris

Solaris

The Solaris is a planet woven from enigma. As it orbits two suns, the Solaris is the epitomie of yet unsolved riddles. Staying on a stable but impossible trajectory its existence questions the very fabric of scientific reasoning.
This drawing illustrates the mystical planet Solaris, as described in Stanislaw Lem's novel that bears the same name.
Serving as the template for two movies, Solaris went on to become one of Lem's most famous works. This new visual representation of the Solaris echoes all of the intricate phenomena described in the novel in the form of a black and white ink drawing.
Inspecting the illustration and detecting patterns mimicks scientific exploration and thereby adresses one of the main questions that Lem poses: Is humanity capable of realizing the scientific method's full potential?
