LIBERI PER NATURA

The work illustrates the revolt that led in 1799 to the proclamation of the Neapolitan Republic. It is a hymn against intolerance, sometimes a bit irreverent, of the Neapolitan people rebellious against each and every attempt of humiliation.
Francesco Porzio with a rich combination of symbolic elements manages "in a nutshell" to create a monument of complex historic and narrative connotations.
Castel Sant 'Elmo, the old jail, is released from the net in which it was trapped by a powerful hand. The tree of liberty rooted in the hand with fresh buds growing on all branches along with the gesture of the hand of removing the net symbolize bestowed blessing and protection.
The powerful union of strong physical shapes (the castle and the hand) with other subtle and ethereal forms (the network and the tree) allow for individual stylistic evaluations and personal revelations of each spectator.
Such an ample blend of hidden meanings in an amalgam of symbols confirms the talent of the exquisite young artist.
