With this artwork I close my experience in Celeste.Network.
I'm starting to remove all the materials published in this site, obviously except the artwork "socialnetwork", which is tightly related to the community, and the artworks that took part in the Celeste Prize.
My separation is not a demonstration of discord toward the community or the users, indeed: it has been a positive and pleasing experience, but sincerely I can not coherently keep many sites; for this reason I leave in my profile the links to some up-to-date sites.
The artwork "socialnetwork" is not a criticism to the single users or this community, but more to the use that generally we make of the social networks, which become incredible amplifiers of the pseudologic mythomania, that we are led to attest with the number of followers.
D e s c r i p t i o n
This is an immaterial artwork consisting of an image file released in 256 multiples.
S t a t e m e n t
2013 April 18th: since I joined this art oriented social network, 3.5 years ago, in order to be sure that my contacts had the freewill to follow my profile, I kept this behaviour:
• I never asked for a friendship first,
• I approved every friendship request.
In 2012 November 10th I launched this project consisting in the making of an artwork using the profile pictures from the first 256 contacts in my e-friends' list, and:
• 4 joined the project and 2 wrote a comment.
Then I sent a personal message to the 256 contacts, one by one, and:
• 218 never answered in more than 30 days: their thumbnails are faded and marked with a white X.
• 38 answered, of which:
• 28 liked the idea.
• 9 forbade the use of their profile picture: their thumbnails are censored and marked with a red X.
• 1 forbade and banned me: that thumbnail is censored and marked with a purple X.
I already knew in person 4 of the 256 contacts.
The users who answered my messages will be gifted with one multiple, consisting in its certificate of authenticity. Beside, they will get the high resolution image file with which are entitled to make one print on paper 40 x 135 cm.
