Canopy is the twelfth acrylic and mixed media painting in my tree of life series. A combination of poured and swirled color with transparent acrylic media, “striping” with tar gel, tinted extruded gels, and layered glass, acrylic, sand and pumice were used to create the patterns and textures in “Canopy”. The title is self-explanatory. The angled mica flakes catch the lite and the whole painting glitters. The effect intensifies towards the top – the canopy. The trunk and lower portions of the painting are textured with clear gel and sand raked into moire line patterns. This softens the colors and the glittering effect (like shade would), and lends a bit of mystery.
